What Products Do I Need To Get Started In Electrolysis?

New to electrolysis and not sure what you need to stock up on? We’re here to help!

HOF Beauty are proud to be experts in permanent hair removal and are the exclusive UK distributor of Apilus – the number 1 permanent hair removal brand. Electrolysis or electro-epilation is an incredibly profitable treatment with very few consumables needed. However, there are some key products that you’ll need to keep handy. Let’s run through our ideal electrolysis hecklist!

Needles

Of course, a good supply of needles (AKA probes) is essential. There are a few things to consider when choosing the brand and needle type that you’d like to work with.

One piece or two?

The choice between one or two piece needles is completely yours and is down to personal preference. At HOF, our one piece needles are Ballet and Velona, and our two piece option is ProTec. All are available in a wide range of sizes, insulated, gold, and stainless steel.

Health & Safety

Every electrologist should have high-quality, well-fitting gloves. We suggest these disposable, vinyl, powder-free gloves.

You’ll need a sharps box for disposing of your needles., such as this one.

Finally, you’ll need some cleaning supplies. A quality disinfectant should be used for cleaning surfaces and equipment. You can also invest in a UV cabinet to sterilise your smaller tools, such as tweezers.

Pre-Treatment

Before you can start zapping away any hairs, you’ll need to make sure the client’s skin is clean. A great option is salicylic acid. This will remove any impurities on the skin and also lightly exfoliate, removing dead skin cells and improving your access to the hair follicles. This mccosmetics salicylic is our not-so-secret weapon! Don’t forget some cotton pads or gauze to apply it with.

During Treatment

Time to start the treatment. Once you’ve destroyed the follicle, a good, reliable pair of tweezers is needed to remove the hair. It’s always a good idea to have a few spare pairs in case the ones you’re currently using become misaligned or are dropped and need re-sterilising.

Post Treatment

A soothing, moisturising gel is a vital part of your electrologist toolkit. Every client will show different levels of erythema post-treatment and a product like Yi-Zhibaume will help calm the skin. Yi-Zhibaume is particularly useful as it can be used with cataphoresis.
